Going on a mini vay-kay to vegas, baby, vegas!!! It's my first time, should be fun.
Probably be moblogging while I'm there so check those places for pics. See "techno post"(a couple posts down) for all the links. See ya in a few days. from+iPhone Wednesday, March 26, 2008thunk it
If you have come across this blog and have often wanted a solid or even an introductory "lesson" about the emerging church or emergent, then take a few min (16 min) and watch this interview with Tony Jones, a friend of mine, that he recently gave on a Texas tv show talking about emergent and his new book (which I need to get (unless Tony wants to send me a free copy)) The New Christians: Dispatches From the Emergent Frontier.

This is too good not to share. I missed it due to the fact that I don't have kids and don't watch kid things (other than HSM, which I guess is tween land).

I like technology.
There's just something about it. The inventiveness, the cool factor, and maybe just the fact that I know I'll never invent something that is cutting edge. I'd like to highlight some of the things (technology wise) that I've been into lately. First off: the iPhone. I've now had mine for 41 days and at this point I couldn't see myself without one. Obessive? Maybe. Amazing? Yes, indeed. I can't tell you how much I like this phone/device/everything. Yes there are some drawbacks, but really it's not worth typing them out, and besides the thing has only really been out less than a year, I can only hope it gets better from here. One thing that the iPhone has led me to do more of (which I really didn't do too much of before) is texting. Or text messaging for those of you who are less technologically inclined. Society has determined (under what merit? but they have) that communication is now done in short bursts and most likely incomplete sentences void of any grammar or punctuation. So I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon. There are times when after 6 or 7 back and forths of texting, you have to say to yourself, that would have been much easier if I had just called the person. I, myself try to avoid those situations as much as possible. The catalyst for my increased texting was a thing called Twitter. I like twitter. It's even at the top of my blog. That's why that section changes all the time. If you don't know what twitter is, here is a great description of what twitter is about. It's been a fun way to stay even more connected to other things that are going on. Yes, I see the argument, that we are probably more connected than we already need to be. But whatever, "it's fun and I can quit whenever I want." Try it and see, find me and follow me, my twitter name is: andrewseely Even tonight I just found a new tech thing. It's related to twitter, it's called twitpic (my twitpic). It works in conjunction with twitter to allow you to share pictures with people. In a more faster kind of way, or at least with the people who follow you on twitter. It's been kinda fun to play with. Really it's just another form of moblogging. Which I know I've posted about before. Since getting not only a digital camera, and then the camera on the iPhone, it's been fun to take pictures on the fly and be able to post them directly to the web to share with people. You can always find my moblogging at any one of these sites: my facebook photo album my flickr acct twitpic One more thing about twitter and texting and the iphone. So when I signed up for the iphone on att, it came with 200 text messages a month. Which is probably about 10x more text messages than I had been needing. Since on the old plan I had, I was only being charged for outgoing text messages. Sadly I realized when my first bill came that I was not being charged for both outgoing AND incoming text messages. Oops. I guickly got those charges reversed and signed up for the 1500 a month text plan. Then I started getting more and more tweets (the verb for twittering) sent to my phone via text message. I soon realized that I may even go through 1500 texts, so I finally caved and signed up for unlimited texts on top of the unlimited internet (which is included with any iphone (though you do pay for it)(though I think it's totally worth it))) With my new found power of unlimited texts, I decided I needed more twitter friends, and started following a whole slew of people and getting their tweets sent to my phone. Which translates into a beep from my phone indicating a new text message literally every 1-6 secs at busy times. If I can't look at my phone for a few mins or heaven forbid an hour or so, I saw a number as high as 35 texts waiting for me. It's kinda funny. I did bring this on myself and can turn off the notifications if I want, but since I get unlimited ones who cares, I find it kind of amusing. At least for now. That and I'm trying to get more twitter friends...the more the merrier. There's probably more tech things that I can talk about, but I'm getting tired and other than still really wanting a mac, I need to cut my tech consumption for tonight. What tech stuff are you into right now (and no one better say pen and paper)? I'm always looking for new things. pt 2 pt 3 pt 4 pt 5 So the saga continues... Over 3 years ago, I documented my eatings of Ultimate Cheeseburgers from Jack in the Box when they went on sale for 1.99. Mind you, this was before I was trying to eat better. Since then, when you search google for ultimate cheeseburger 1.99 on google, I come up #5. Jack is running the promotion again this year and so for the last week or so I have been getting 5-10 hits a day due to people searching for 1.99 ultimate cheeseburgers. I guess this post might only draw me higher up in the google rank, because I have now used the phrase "ultimate cheeseburger" and "1.99" 4 times now. All that to say, I ate another one tonight. Will probably be my first and last during this promotion period. Luckily I went to the gym tonight. The climbing gym that is. Was a fun time. Haven't been climbing in over two years. My arms hurt, my legs hurt, my forearms are in perma-flex mode, and I'm sure my back will hurt later. Might try and make it back there sometime soon. Definitely need to get back in the swing of things. We went to BoulderDash in Thousand Oaks. Its a pretty cool little place. Still need to go down to Rockreation in Santa Monica. ---------- Update: 3/7/08 1:00a Thanks to Paul for letting me know. It seems that due to my excessive use of the phrase "ultimate cheeseburger" and "1.99" (that makes 5 times now) I've risen to the rank of #1 on google. And to even make sure, I did sign out from my google account when I did a search string as not to cloud the data with my google history. There you go folks, this is (for) now the official blog of the 1.99 Ultimate Cheeseburger (that's 6), Jack In the Box, if you would like to sponsor me or pay me ad revenue the email is andrewseely@gmail.com Thanks!! ultimate+cheeseburger jack+in+the+box rock+climbing boulderdash moblogging

If you don't know what moblogging is; it stands for mobile blogging, usually associated with posting pictures from a camera phone to an online source, such as a blog. mobloging photo sunset 3/6/08 photography ghetto 93Wednesday, March 05, 2008mole' pt 2

They came today!!! I'll start to use them tomorrow. Still can't totally decide which one to use. I think I'm gonna start with the traditional one, not the reporter's (flip) book. I'll let you know what I think after a few days. PS You can see some shots from the iphone on my flickr page or my facebook page. moleskine Monday, March 03, 2008ghetto 92Sunday, March 02, 2008mole'
I'm getting a Moleskine. Well actually I'm getting two, one of the classic designed ones and one of the reporter style ones. I'll see which one I like better.
I'm definitely entering into a niche market. Apparently I could be entering into a whole world, system, life choice that informally revolves around one use for the moleskine. GTD Getting Things Done This is a whole organizational system that was recently developed that is the new and hot thing. You thought getting a Palm would organize your life or even a daytimer, well apparently this is even more revolutionary in terms of organizing your life. I've only really read a few things when it comes to how this actually works, and I'm not ready to even start to try it. But if you try or know someone who uses this system, I'd be willing to hear how it works out. Here are a few links to sites that are proponents of either GTD or the moleskine or the use of both. Lifehacker.com and moleskine use and 43folders.com and their moleskine section We'll see how this goes. Could be something fun. Really the reason I'm doing this is to stay a bit more organized at work, and didn't just want to get some flimsy pocket notebook, definitely going for the style factor on this one. I just wanted somewhere to write things down, so I wouldn't forget them. I have too many people asking me to do too many things, so I thought that it would be best to start writing things down and I didn't want 4000 post-its floating around. Order your own moleskine. moleskine GTD lifehacker.com 43folders.com |
